Sayyidina Abu Dardaa' radhiallahu anhu says that Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa salam said:

Compiled by Moulana Yusuf Laher

Malaysia has been gripped by a raging debate since the country’s high court ruling of December 31 that the Catholic weekly Herald had a constitutional right to use the word “Allah” to describe the Christian God in its Bahasa Malaysia section.

The ruling sparked protests from Muslim groups and has been linked to a series of firebombing and arson attacks against at least eight churches in the past few days.

Back in 2007, the former home minister of Malaysia, Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, had banned the Catholic weekly from using the term, citing national security and “to avoid misunderstanding and confusion among the populace.”

The ruling was an outcome of a judicial review the Catholics had
applied for in order to overturn Albar’s ministerial decree.

Those surprised by the unrest, have argued that elsewhere in the world especially in the Middle East, both Christians and Muslims use the name “Allah.” Next door to Malaysia, Muslim and Christian communities use the name “Allah” without much ado.

What is different about it in Malaysia?

The Christian community has the Church, the Jewish community has its Synagogue, the Hindu Community has it's Mandir, the Sikh community has the Gurdwara and the Buddhists have their Temple and so on…..But the Muslim community not only has the Musjid but also the educational Madrasah.

Al-hamdulillah, Allah Ta’ala has blessed the Muslims with such a great bounty where children from as young as five learn to read the Qur'an, Islamic Taarikh (history), Adab & Akhlaaq (Manners and Etiquettes), Hadith (Traditions of Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wassallam), Fiqh (Basic Islamic Rulings) and much more. This is also where children complete Hifz (the memorisation of 30 chapters, 114 Surah's and 6236 verses of the Holy Qur'an!). This in itself is a miracle of Allah Ta’ala, but the message I am trying to get across is that the Madrasah system is a bounty which through the efforts of our pious predecessors, for hundreds of years, has educated us and has saved many of us from becoming completely neglectful of the Deen.

How many Jews can read the Torah in its original Hebrew text? How many Christians can read the Bible in its original Aramaic text? How many Sikhs and Hindus can read their respective books in their original text?

I asked Allah why I wasn't rich.
He showed me a man with the wealth of a thousand kings,
Who was lonely, and had no one to share it with.

I asked Allah why I wasn't beautiful.
He showed me a woman more beautiful than any other,
Who was ugly because of her vanity?

I asked Allah why He'd allowed me to become old.
He showed me a boy of 16, who lay dead at the scene of a car accident.

I asked Allah why I didn't have a bigger house.
He showed me a family of six,
who had just been evicted from their tiny shack,
And were forced, to live on the street.

I asked Allah why I had to work.
He showed me a man, who couldn't find a decent job,
Because he'd never learned to read.

I asked Allah why I wasn't more popular.
He showed me a socialite with a thousand friends,
Who all left the moment the money and parties were no longer there.

I asked Allah why I wasn't smarter.
He showed me a natural born genius,
Serving life in prison for making ill use of his knowledge.

I asked Allah why He put up with a thankless sinner like me.

Had it not been for the beautiful Dîn of Islâm, brought to us by none other than Rasulullah SAW where would we have been? Did we ever ponder what our actions and beliefs would have been? What our names and lifestyles would have been? How would we have commenced and ended our day?

Could it be that we would have been nurtured in an environment of sin and disbelief, of depravity and sleaze. Would we be, adhering to a religion of falsehood worshipping deities other than Allâh? Would we have been immersed in a lifestyle of materialism? Would we have been unfortunate to go to bed in a style of intoxication and wake up with a hangover?

Would we.... Would we....

Alhamdulillah, that we are born into homes of Islâm and Imân. Homes illuminated with the teachings of Rasulullah SAW. Lifestyles upon the pattern of the Noble Sunnah. Actions in conformity to the commands of the Creator. A blessed and truly prosperous life. A life with blissful and joyous consequences. A path which culminates in a blessed death and eternal pleasure.

Be that as it may, Shaytân however cannot sit by idly and allow us this goodness and wholesome life. No! He plans and endeavours with his agents to rob every Muslim of his spirituality. He whispers evil and lures the Believers into his deceitful trap of sinful worldly pleasure. He invites the Believer most alluringly, away from all his hard-earned goodness, and well-charted path of joy, towards sin, depravity, sleaze and intoxication. A Believer must be alert! He must jealously guard his Imân and Deeds from the evil clutches of Shaytân who deceives him with false joy and pleasure. A Believer must step cautiously and seek protection with Allâh from Shaytân's trap. A believer must question himself. "Do I, as a reciter of the Kalimah, a follower of Dîn-e-Muhammadi, need Shaytân to guide me? Do I need to attend such places where Shaytân robs me of my hard-earned spirituality? Do I belong to ALL-NIGHT RAVE, where nothing but evil in the form of music, dancing, drugs, intoxicarits, and zina exist. Is that the path which my Beloved NABI SAW would have liked for me? When I have been saved from all this filth by Rasulullah SAW, do I still ignore him and throw myself into ruin and destruction ??? Do I?

No! A Muslim, a follower of Rasulullâh [SAW) will shun all such places of vice by disregarding Shaytân and pleasing Rahmân!!!
Ibn ‘Abbâs (may Allâh be pleased with him) said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) came to Madinah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of ‘Âshûrâ’. He said, ‘What is this?’ They said, ‘This is a righteous day, it is the day when Allâh saved the Children of Israel from their enemies, so Mûsa fasted on this day.’ He said, ‘We have more right to Mûsa than you,’ so he fasted on that day and commanded [the Muslims] to fast on that day.” (Reported by al-Bukhâri, 1865).
It is mustahabb (encouraged) to fast Tâsoo’â’ with ‘Âshûrâ’

‘Abd-Allâh ibn ‘Abbâs (may Allâh be pleased with them both) said: “When the Messenger of Allâh (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) fasted on ‘Âshûrâ’ and commanded the Muslims to fast as well, they said, ‘O Messenger of Allâh, it is a day that is venerated by the Jews and Christians.’ The Messenger of Allâh (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said, ‘If I live to see the next year, in sha Allâh, we will fast on the ninth day too.’ But it so happened that the Messenger of Allâh (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) passed
away before the next year came.” (Reported by Muslim, 1916).

There are two male and female prayer rooms at the airport in Johannesburg. The original prayer room is situated at the end of the international section next to the aircraft viewing area. The other one is situated between the international arrivals and domestic departures.
