Home Q&A Trade and Commerce Whatsapp at Work

Q: Is it permissible for an employee to read personal WhatsApp and social media messages during work hours?

A: If an employee has completed his tasks and is sitting idle, then it will be permissible to read personal messages. However, if an employee has not fulfilled his allocated tasks or reading messages disturbs his work, then it will not be permissible to read personal messages.

The employer is paying the employee for his time, hence, the employee is obliged to dedicate his time, entirely, to his employer. (Aap Ke Masa'il)
